James F. (Jim) Jacobsen

James F. (Jim) Jacobsen

Executive Director

James F. (Jim) Jacobsen was named Executive Director of The Culpeper in September 2015. His employment with LifeSpire of Virginia began in August 1991 when he served as Director of Dining Services at The Culpeper campus. In 1995, he began 20 years of service at Lakewood, the LifeSpire of Virginia retirement community located in Richmond, Virginia. Jim was instrumental in coordinating and facilitating a number of initiatives and large expansion projects at Lakewood. He played key roles during various organizational transitions while serving at Lakewood. Jim was often described as the face of “Customer Service” while serving as Administrator of Resident Life at Lakewood for many years.

Jim is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and Preceptor in the Commonwealth of Virginia and holds a degree in Applied Sciences with a major in Business Management and has completed the Certified Dietary Managers Program from the University of Florida. Jim holds a certification through the Association of Nutrition and Food Service Professionals. He is an active member of the International Facility Managers Association and long-term member and past Chairman within LeadingAge Virginia.

Linda Feagan, RN

Linda Feagan, RN

Director of Nursing

Linda joined the Nursing Department in 1988 as a staff nurse. She obtained an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and was later appointed Director of Nursing in 1999. Linda is also very active in both her local church and Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. She and her husband have one son.

Bethany Starkie

Assisted Living Administrator

Bethany Starkie joined The Culpeper’s Team in January 2015 as Programming Manager and then went on to be appointed to the administration team as Assisted Living Administrator. She received her Bachelor Degree from Radford University in Therapeutic Recreation. During her time at The Culpeper she obtained a Master Degree in Health Administration from Ohio University and in May 2019 received her Assisted Living Administrator’s license in the state of Virginia. Bethany has over 10 years of service in the Assisted Living profession.

Rose Meeks Ervin

Director of Marketing

Rose has been with The Culpeper since 2014. She was born and raised in the Fredericksburg area. She is honored to represent the marketing team and amazing residents of The Culpeper. Prior to joining the team, she worked in Healthcare Administration with a primary interest in geriatrics. You will typically find her out and about in our beautiful community, or in her office on the first floor. You may also find her in the community sharing all that The Culpeper has to offer. She has 3 grown daughters and 1 grandchild who she absolutely adores. In her free time you can find her and her husband kayaking on a river, tent camping in the Shenandoah, volunteering or enjoying time with friends and family.

Bernadette Hunter, CDM,CFPP

Bernadette Hunter, CDM,CFPP

Director of Dining Service

Bernadette is a native of Pennsylvania. She has been The Culpeper since November of 2008. She received her CDM, CFPP thru the University of Florida in 2001.

She has worked in CCRC’s and/or Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers since the age of 16. She has served in many roles thru her years of experience. Previously worked with Genesis Elder Care, Sodexo and Cura Hospitality. She has served a Dining Director for 18 years and as an assistant Director for 5 years. She has also served as interim Director of Housekeeping and Laundry along with her Dining Role. She has won the financial award 3 years in a row, for top positive financial outcomes.

Gina Faulk

Director of Human Resources

Gina Faulk joined The Culpeper team in April 2017. Prior to joining The Culpeper, Gina has been employed in the hospitality industry and most recently in HR management for a web based retail/wholesale company. In her role at The Culpeper, she oversees recruiting and retention, training, compliance, and employee relations. With more than 20 years’ experience in Human Resources Management and an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, she works with all levels of employees to make sure they reach their potential.

Susie Hatfield

Director of Resident Services

Susie Hatfield joined The Culpeper team in January 2022 as Director of Resident Services. Before joining The Culpeper, she worked as a clinical social worker for hospice organizations and as a school social worker in Warren County, Va. Most recently, she worked at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center as the Director of Admissions.

Susie has a master’s degree in Social Work from Radford University. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Culpeper and lives on her family’s farm in Culpeper County with her husband, Greg, and five children.

When not at work, Susie can be found on a game field somewhere because all of her children are involved in sports.

Environmental Services Manager

James Bryan joined The Culpeper team in December 2021, as the Environmental Services Manager. His experience in the environmental services industry is extensive, including four years as the Environmental Services Manager at The National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and five years at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He then spent five years as the Environmental Services Director of Culpeper County Schools, and several years serving other rehab and nursing facilities.

James was born and raised in Manhattan, N.Y., and has been a resident of Virginia for 12 years. He lives in Locust Grove, VA, with his wife of 18 years. They have one son and three grandchildren.

James has been the Pastor at Disciples of Christ Ministries in Culpeper for 10 years. Their services are held at Culpeper Baptist Church.

Hans Murdock

Chaplain

Hans Murdock joined The Culpeper team as the Chaplain in June 2016. He received his Bachelor’s in Bible and Religion from Erskine College and his Master’s in Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Hans spent two years in Russia with the International Mission Board before moving to Pennsylvania in 2004 to partner with the North American Mission Board. There, Hans planted Living Water Community Church in Latrobe, PA, and pastored until 2016.

Hans met his wife, Becky, while at seminary and they are blessed with a daughter, Sandra. Hans enjoys watching things grow, from ministries to vegetables. He has always particularly loved serving and working alongside senior adults.

Business Office Manager

Martha Whorton is a Culpeper native that began her career with The Culpeper’s parent company, LifeSpire of Virginia, formally Virginia Baptist Homes, back in 1980. More than 40 years ago Martha began her tenure with the Hurt Gerontology Center and then was appointed as the secretary to the VP of Finance. Martha then went on to become well-versed in Accounts Payable, Outpatient Therapy, Executive Assistant to the CFO & CEO, as well as Move-In Coordinator in the marketing department for The Culpeper.

Currently, Martha serves as The Culpeper’s business office manager and enjoys not only the history that she has been an eye witness to in her tenure, but also the excitement of what the future holds.

Matt Baugh

Maintenance Manager

Matt Baugh joined The Culpeper team in May 2017, as a Maintenance Technician. He was promoted to Maintenance Manager in 2020. Matt brings nearly 20 years of experience to his role, including work as an electrician’s apprentice, carpenter and landscaper.

Matt has lived in Gordonsville, Va., most of his life. He has three children. Matt is a collector of guns and coins, and enjoys painting and working on projects around his house.

Lisa Scott

Quality Improvement & Development Coordinator

Lisa is a native of Culpeper, Virginia and the mother of one child, Macy. Lisa joined the staff at The Culpeper in 2016 as the Quality Improvement & Staff Development Coordinator. Lisa enjoys the challenge of taking opportunities to improve the quality of resident care and overall safety for the community, while keeping up with the ever changing regulatory requirements. She places a strong emphasis on enhancing staff’s skills and talents, while providing various interactive staff training sessions.

She has been a nurse for over 25 years, with 20 of those years spent in Geriatric Nursing. Proceeding her employment at The Culpeper, Lisa served in various other roles such as QA Nurse, Certified Would Care Nurse, Clinical Coordinator on Skilled Unity, MDS Coordinator, and Pre-Op Surgical Nurse. She is also currently a Certified Dementia Care Specialist.

Lisa’s free time is typically spent doing fun activities with her daughter, family and friends.

Jessica Young

Executive/Human Resources Assistant

Jessica Young joined The Culpeper team in March 2021 as the Executive/Human Resources Assistant. She brings more than 20 years of experience as an administrative professional to this role.

Over the years, she has worked for a Virginia State senator and for a managing director for a Fortune 100 company. She is also a Notary Public.

Jessica is a Virginia native and a Culpeper resident for the last 15 years. Her husband, Ben, is a firefighter and they have one daughter. Jessica enjoys music, theater, reading and spending time outdoors. She spends most weekends at the soccer fields watching her daughter play goalie.
