January 14: COVID-19 Update

The Culpeper’s leadership team continues to thank you for your support as we navigate the latest surge in COVID-19 cases. On January 13, the leadership team became aware of one COVID-19 positive resident in assisted living and one COVID-19 positive resident on memory support. On this date, all assisted living and memory support residents and team members were tested, and terrace level outbreak testing was held on January 13. All test results are listed below.

Due to the shared dining space, a rapid drive-through clinic was held for any cottage resident who wished to be tested. All cottage residents who were tested received negative results.

Terrace level healthcare positives:
• One direct care team member who last worked 1/6/22

Main building assisted living positives:
• Three non-direct care team members
• One direct care team member
• One resident

Garden level memory support positives:
• Seven residents
• Two direct care team members who last worked 1/13/22

Representatives of all residents who tested positive have been notified. All residents who are positive and any known direct resident exposures have been placed in isolation with transmission-based precautions.

All communal activities and dining have been suspended within the memory support neighborhood and residents will remain in their private rooms. Main building assisted living residents have had communal meals suspended through lunch next Tuesday, January 18. All communal activities will continue as scheduled with mask use and distancing in place. Communal activities and dining continue to be suspended in the rehab-to-home neighborhood.

There will be no changes for cottage residents at this time. Cottage residents are asked to alert the clinic if they start to have symptoms so testing can be completed.

Per new Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidance, visitation will not be discontinued although visitors are urged to strongly consider the need for visitation to rehab-to-home at this time, and are strongly discouraged from visiting memory support.

All COVID-19 positive team members will remain at home until return-to-work criteria are met. Contact tracing has been completed for all team members. All identified high-risk team members will be tested per CMS guidance testing protocol and will be closely observed for symptoms of the virus. No resident high-risk exposures from team members have been identified.

The Culpeper’s terrace level remains in outbreak testing with the next testing date for residents and team members set for Thursday, January 20. Residents and team members in assisted living and memory support will be tested next Tuesday, January 18, or if they become symptomatic.

Any team members who are not yet fully vaccinated or have received a medical or religious waiver from LifeSpire of Virginia will continue to be tested based on the county transmission rate. The leadership team will communicate any further positive cases.

All licensing agencies and the Virginia Department of Health have been notified of the positive cases and subsequent actions taken by The Culpeper.
