December 4: COVID-19 Update

Culpeper County’s current positivity rate remains in the red zone and The Culpeper’s team is doing everything we can, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), to keep our residents, team members and their families safe and healthy. With that said, we would like to advise of some recent positive cases in the community.

On December 3, The Culpeper’s management team became aware of two team members who tested positive for COVID-19. The first team member works in the healthcare center. This team member was tested November 30 during the required twice-weekly baseline testing in the healthcare center. The team member is asymptomatic and quarantining at home per Virginia Department of Health (VDH) guidance until return to work criteria is met. Contact tracing did not reveal any direct contact with other team members or residents. Based on VDH recommendations, all residents who live in the neighborhood where the positive case was identified were tested on December 3.

The second team member works in assisted living. The team member became symptomatic and was tested outside the community on December 3. This team member is recovering at home per VDH guidance until return to work criteria is met. Contact tracing revealed that the team member had no direct contact with residents. However, another healthcare team member was possibly exposed. This team member was tested and is quarantining at home pending results.

Additionally, a resident who was staying in the rehab to home neighborhood in the healthcare center became symptomatic on December 3. The resident was sent to the hospital for evaluation and later tested positive on December 3. While at The Culpeper, the resident followed the community protocol of isolation. All residents in the rehab to home neighborhood are on isolation and will be tested weekly, in accordance with VDH recommendations.

The Culpeper team is closely monitoring all residents in the healthcare, assisted living and memory care areas to ensure everyone is in good health. Both VDH and all licensing agencies were notified of these positive results. The Culpeper’s team continues to follow all recommendations from VDH to prevent the spread of the virus.

Visitation remains suspended until further notice for all main building residents to include outdoor visits and memory support courtyard visits. Zoom, Skype and window visits will continue with appropriate reservations. Communal dining and activities continue accordingly.
