August 7: COVID-19 Update

On August 7, a team member from The Culpeper tested positive for COVID-19. The team member, who works as a licensed nurse in the memory care neighborhood, is recovering at home. The team member will quarantine at home for at least 10 days. This positive test is unrelated to ongoing baseline testing.

The team member last worked at The Culpeper on August 2. The management team conducted a detailed contact tracing to determine who this team member has had recent close contact with. It was determined that this team member did not have the type of close contact with residents or others that would require further action at this time. Memory care residents will have increased monitoring, including vital signs. The management team has notified community members about possible exposure and has been in touch with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Department of Social Services (DSS).

The dining team member who tested positive for COVID-19 through the random sample testing on July 31 is still asymptomatic but is continuing to self-quarantine at home. Sample COVID-19 testing was completed on August 7 strictly for staff who work in the health care unit. Those test results are still pending.

The Culpeper will continue to follow all necessary precautions and guidelines set forth by VDH and DSS. Additionally, all staff are following disease transmission-based guidelines to limit the spread of the virus. Anyone who enters the community will continue to be screened daily. Each team member has been educated regarding the process of self-reporting.

The leadership team will continue to keep you informed. Please check the COVID-19 communication hub at http://www.culpeperretirement.org/blog/covid19/. Contact [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
