January 13: COVID-19 Update

On January 12, The Culpeper’s management team became aware that two assisted living residents tested positive for COVID-19. Both residents tested positive while at the hospital under observation. Both residents have returned to the community and have been in isolation ever since. Resident representatives, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Department of Social Services were all notified.

Per the recommendations from the local health department, all other assisted living residents are quarantining. All communal dining and activities for assisted living are suspended. Independent living cottage residents are not permitted into the main building until further notice. Meal pick-up opportunities are available for cottage residents. All assisted living team members and residents will be tested on Thursday, January 14, along with the previously scheduled state-mandated baseline testing for all healthcare residents and team members.

Additionally, the management team learned that four direct care team members tested positive for COVID-19 during testing conducted on January 11. One of the team members works in assisted living, while the other three work in the long-term healthcare center. All four team members are quarantining at home until the return-to-work criteria are met per VDH.

Contact tracing is underway and anyone who is determined to have been in close contact with these positive residents or team members will be contacted directly. At this time, VDH has not provided any additional guidance. Visitation remains suspended for all residents in the main building. Team members are available to assist with phone calls with loved ones, use of Zoom, Skype and window visits weather permitting.

The Culpeper team continues to closely monitor all residents in the healthcare, assisted living and memory support neighborhoods to enhance early identification for any potential signs of virus transmission. Please continue wearing masks covering the nose and mouth, socially distance and practice proper hand hygiene.

The Culpeper’s first coordinated vaccination clinic with Walgreens Pharmacy was a success on January 12. Vaccinations were provided to all consenting residents and team members. Details on the second vaccination clinic are forthcoming.
